Facing the league leading Newcastle North Stars the Bears managed to hold their own in a penalty filled game. The North Stars jumped out to an early lead with Brian Bales scoring on the powerplay after Spencer Austin was sent to the box only 1:26 into the game for interference. 

The Bears responded late in the first period with Vlad Rubes cashing in on a rebound whilst shorthanded after Adrian Esposito flew down the wing and fired a shot far side on goaltender Matt Ezzy. The Bears managed kill off 2 more penalties before the end of the first period to finish tied 1-1. 

The second period showed much of the first with a rotating penalty box door for both team. Brian Bales increase the lead for the North Stars after finding the back of the net after intercepting a cross ice pass shorthanded and scoring on the breakaway glove side on goal tender Gabriel Robledo. 

The Bears came close to tying the game with Michael Schlamp ringing a wicked wrist shot off the post but it was North Stars finishing the second period on top 2-1. 

Starting the third period down 2-1 the Bears continued to press but ran into penalty trouble again with Brain Bales completing the hat trick scoring on a 3 on 2 rush.  Peter Cartwright added the North Stars fourth goal of the night before Adrian Esposito potted his first goal of the season with less than 2 minutes to go to bring the score to 4-2. 

The Habitat Furniture 3 Stars of the Game were 

1. Gabriel  Robledo  - stopping 24 of 28 shots on the night. 
2. Adrian Esposito – notching 2 points (1 goal and 1 assist) 
3. Vlad Rubes – scoring the Bears first shorthanded goal of the season. 

The Bears will be welcoming the arrival of 2 more imports next week with Tony Demelinne and Sheldon Baerg, both set to be in the lineup for the Bears next game against the Knights in Canberra.
