Bears put everything to the net

The Knights opened the scoring less than 4 minutes into the first period when Chris McPhail finished the cross ice feed from Brit Ouellette after a neutral zone 2 on 1 break down by the Bears.

Continuing to apply the pressure the Knights increase their lead with Ollie Rozdarz scoring on the powerplay after Michael Schlamp was sent to the box for high sticking at the 11:36 mark in the first period.

Schlamp redeemed himself just before the end of the period scoring lower block side on Knight’s goalie Russell Brewer, bringing the Bears within in 1. The Bears continued to both out shoot and out chance the Knights in the second period and were rewarded for their efforts with Schlamp scoring his second of the night five hole.

With 1:54 to go in the second period the Aaron Clayworth put the Knights back in front wristing a shot from the point past a screened Gabriel Robledo. The Knights managed to score another goal at the start of the third period before Bears import Kurtis Dulle scored his first of the season, putting the backhand passed a sprawled out goalie.

With the clock winding down, the Bears pulled their goalie for the extra attacker but couldn’t find the tying goal before the horn sounded. At the end of the game the Bears had outshot the Knights 42 – 29, but could only find the net 3 times.

"With the limited line up we put on a good show and deserved to take some points, but sometimes the way you play is more important than the results" said Vlad Rubes on his teams performace.

The Habitat Furniture 3 Stars of the Game

  1. Michael Schlamp – 2 goals on the night
  2. Daniel Shaw – great offensive chances all night
  3. Laurie Mock  - 1 assist on the night

The Bears have to regroup quickly as they take on the Newcastle North Stars tonight at the Penrith Ice Palace. The North Stars suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of the Ice Dogs last night, going down 6-4 at the LLC centre.
